Honduras:
Population 7.1 million people, 2.1 million of which are unemployed
20% of the population lives on less than $1 per day, 53% live below the poverty line
Jesus said:
“The Lord’s Spirit has come to me,
because he has chosen me to tell the good news
to the poor.
The Lord has sent me to announce freedom
for prisoners, to give sight to the blind, to free everyone
who suffers, and to say,
`This is the year the Lord has chosen.’ “

Plus:
America, strong, rich, and unhealthy.
On May 5th, I will be a running a 1/2 marathon for my health and for Honduras.

Help me and ten other people traveling to La Acequia, Honduras in our efforts to use America’s blessings to help release a small city in Honduras of their oppression.

Using a Nike+ sensor, I will track my miles beginning with training in January and ending with a 1/2 Marathon on May 5th, 2007. I am looking to raise money for Honduras by having sponsors for the miles that I run during the training and on the day of the race. My training schedule currently calculates 248 miles total.

As you learn about poverty please consider joining in Christ’s dream for this world.
Regardless of your beliefs, backgrounds, and traditions, we are all part of this world and all here to make it a better place.

On May 19th-May 28th, Eric and I will be traveling with ten other team members to Honduras to actively use the gifts you send by sponsoring this run.

As you read these posts, please consider posting a comment which could be a question, advice, encouragement as I try to run 13.1 miles :) , and hopefully a pledge for each mile I complete. I will post information about Honduras and how your generous pledges will be used as well as progress on my runs.

Run with me.
Meg

Meggie! I’m so proud of you and excited for you! And I’m glad our first marathon experience hasn’t completely turned you off to long distance running ;) ! If you have any questions during the training process, let me know as I’ve managed to build up quite a file on proper training techniques since I was pretty clueless. Kevin and I will definitely pledge! You’re amazing!

  2. Christi Says:

Meg-a-leg…That’s Incredible! If you’re on board, I’m on board! I know you will do wonderfully, as you do not know how to do anything but succeed once you’ve put your heart into something. Talk to Andrea, as she went to Honduras in Summer 2004. She can give you advise on what to expect when you get there, according to her experiences. Keep me posted. I Love You.

  3. Brandi Says:

Good Luck Meg! What a great cause…something you should be very proud of. We’ll be routing for you!

It will be nice to have you a bit closer for a week! I would love to help, with motivation, training tips, ideas on Latin America, and monetarily. Let me know how I can??? Much love to you – sarita

  7. Sara, Bo & Tyler Says:

Meg, This sounds great! We will be behind you all the way. #1 will be prayers and thanksgiving for your wanting to help, and for your safety during your training, run and your visit. #2 we will definitely support you financially as much as possible. Love to you both! Sara

  8. Nat Says:

Meg – Jesse Owens is one of my all-time favorite athletes. This quote helped me through my last training session and I’m using it again this go round.

“I always loved running…it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.” – Jesse Owens

Good luck – I’ll be praying for you as I race in Illinois the same day. Let me know how to make a pledge for the people of Hondurus. The earth is a better place because you’re on it. Thanks for being an inspiration. – nat
